Why I Fired My Secretary

Got this story from the net. Nice story. Enjoy!

Two weeks ago was my 45th birthday and I wasn't feeling too good that morning. I went to breakfast knowing my wife would be pleasant and say,

"Happy Birthday!", and probably would have a present for me. As it turned out, she didn't even say good morning, let alone any happy birthday. I thought, well, that's wives for you, the children will remember.

The kids came to breakfast and didn't say a word. So when I left for the office, I was feeling pretty low and despondent. As I walked into my office, my secretary, Janet, said, "Good morning, Boss. Happy Birthday." And I felt a little better that someone had remembered.

I worked until noon, then Janet knocked on my door and said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day outside, and it's your birthday, let's go to lunch, just you and me." I said, "Well, that's the best thing I've heard all day. Let's go!"

We went to lunch. We didn't go where we normally go; instead we went out to a private little place. We had two martinis and enjoyed lunch tremendously. On the way back to the office, she said, "You know, it's such a beautiful day, we don't need to go back to the office, do we?" I said, "No, I guess not." She said, "Let's stop by my apartment."

After arriving at her apartment she said, "Boss, if you don't mind, I think I'll go into the bedroom and slip into something more comfortable." She went into the bedroom and, in about six minutes, she came out carrying a huge birthday cake, followed by my wife, children, and dozens of our friends, all singing Happy Birthday.

And I just sat there . . . on the couch . . . naked......

Encouraging Words...

The other day, I overheard Celes jie talking about encouragement. She said 'keep on encouraging until you see something happening'. That statement really openned my mind.

It's no use to force people to do things if they do not want to do it. But if you keep on encouraging and encouraging, this will give them confidence that they can do it. Eventually they will want to do it and you see miracles happening... Wow! It seems so clear to me now... So guys, remember to encourage people!

Below are some 'Words to Forget' and 'Words to Remember'.

A Date With Yasmin Ahmad

24/04/2005 - Sunday

Skipped F1 just to meet up with Yasmin Ahmad (the director of 'Rabun' and 'Sepet')" at Setenang.org.

Adrian, introduced us (about 17 people) to Yasmin. Yasmin is just fabulous and is a people person. She's also very open-minded and speaks fluent English, Malay, Cantonese, Japanese and little French. Wow!

Firstly, there was screening of Yasmin's past Petronas TV Adverts. After the adverts, there was screening of 'Rabun', Yasmin's first film. 'Rabun' won the Best Asean Feature Film (ABOVE 60 MIN) at the 8th Malaysian Video Awards Fest 2003. It has also been selected for four international film festivals, including being chosen for competition at the Torino International Film Festival 2003 in Italy.

'Rabun' (difficulty in seeing) is a story about an old couple where the husband has rabun and a wife who's the queen of the house. Hehe... This movie shows how they go through life despite the husband having rabun. The impact of the movie was the old couple was so loving, and would be running around the house just like little kids, eventhough they've grown old. That was so heart warming and sweet!

My ratings for Rabun: 4/5 - Watch it if you got the chance =)

After the screening, we had a photo session and we have Bro Wong presenting a terrarium to Yasmin.

Bro Wong presenting a terrarium to Pn. Yasmin

After that, we had a mamak session and everyone was asking Yasmin about 'Rabun' and 'Sepet'. Why this happen lar, why that happen lar, etc... Ahh... If you guys wanna know, come for the screening of Sepet at Setanang.org in the near future =P Currently, Yasmin is making another film called 'Gubra'. Let's hope it's as good as 'Rabun' and 'Sepet'. We chit-chatted and we adjourned at about 12 midnite.

What a day! Adrian, thanks for organizing this event. Really enjoyed meeting up with Yasmin. Looking forward for more events like this in the future. =)

Also, remember to visit Yasmin's blog.

The Apprentice

Bought The Apprentice Season 1 DVD Series last Wednesday and finished watching it on Thursday! Holiday ma... Hehe... =P

The Apprentice is a reality-tv based show in which contestants compete for a job as an apprentice to billionaire American Donald Trump. The winner of the competition, the true "apprentice" will be granted the dream job of a lifetime with The Trump Organization and a salary of $250,000.

Have you guys watched The Apprentice already? Learned alot of stuffs from it. I think the most important lesson I learned from watching this show is about getting good people who you can trust to get the job done.

Bill Rancic

Amy Henry

For me, Bill (the winner) deserves to be hired. He's street smart and hardworking. Also, if there's another choice, I would also hire Amy. She helped Bill alot during the last few episodes. The final task would be more interesting if we get to see both of them fighting each other. Hehe... Anyways Great show! I highly recommend it! Will post the lessons soon.

/// Updated on 24/05/2005 ///

Some Donald Trump memorable quotes from The Apprentice:

1. Don't deal with underlings - Always deak with the boss wherever possible.

2. The art of the deal - Negotiation is a delicate art. It isn't learned, it's in the genes. A negotiator is born.

3. A deal's a deal - once you shake hands, that should be it.

4. Stand up for yourself - Nobody will fight for you

5. Know what you're up against. The big thing in negotiation is to try and figure out your opponent. Otherwise you're going to look like an idiot and lose big."

6. Beggars can't be choosers - Never beg when you're trying to sell something. If it doesn't work out, take your lumps and relax. Never sell through begging.

7. You gotta believe.

8. Think Outside The Box - It's easier to think big. It's easier to attract money and capital to a big project than it would be to do a small job that nobody care about and nobody wanted to finance.

9. Passion - You cannot be successful without passion. If you don't love what you're doing, if you don't have passion for it, forget it. Do something else. You'll lead a lot happier life.

10. Dog Does Not Eat Dog - The greatest thing that can happen to a business man or woman is to surround yourself with talented people who also happen to be loyal. If they're not loyal to you one time, don't give them a second chance because they won't be loyal to you next time.

OK, finished The Aprrentice Season 1. Gonna get another series. Which is better? The L Word or The Office?

TASA Young KL Singers presents Four Seasons!

The upcoming production Four Seasons will feature diverse compositions and choral arrangements by famed musicians from the past depicting sounds and events relating to the four seasons in a year. The approximately 50-member choir under the wing of The Actors Studio Academy (TASA) will present choral works of different European languages such as German, French, Swedish, Spanish and English. These pieces are music associated with famous poems, spirituals, festivals and scenes from all four seasons - the chirping of birds and dewdrops of spring; the gentle breezes to the psalms of summer; the falling leaves of autumn; to the cold, freezing nights and the festivities that abound during winter.

Samara (English) - 3.5/5

Star Wars Revelations?

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

StarWars.com has unveiled three TV spots for STAR WARS: EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH!" The three spots are shorter than the longer trailer that has been seen earlier, and a little bit more pop action than the dark trailer that gave me hope. Anyway, here is Spot 1, Spot 2, and Spot 3.

Star Wars 'Revelations'

Meanwhile, for those who can wait for Star Wars Episode III to come out. Panic Struck Productions have just released their first Star Wars movie, 'Revelations.' The movie has been produced on a not-for profit basis by a team of volunteers and is available for free download. Despite its humble origins, the production appears extraordinarily professional. The film is over 40 minutes long, complete with space battles and lightsaber fights - need I say more? See more details at the official site, or jump straight to the download mirrors. (242MB)

Amazing Hunt

03/04/2005 - Sunday

Photo Session at the Amazing Hunt (click the photo for bigger view)

Was at the 'Amazing Hunt' in Bangsar Village last Sunday. Was there to help out as one of the caremamen cameramen. Since this is a charity treasure hunt, all the participants will be running around Bangsar area for clues while I was chasing the participants for photos. It was fun!... hehe... =P

But you know what? It's not so easy to organize such an event. And I have to mention here that all the people involved in this project did a very good job to make this Amazing Hunt a success and kudos to the RotarAct Club of Kuala Lumpur (RACKL). Overall it was an Awesome Event!

adultary?

Don't lose that 90% you already have.

Adultery happens when you start looking for what you don't have. "Wow, this girl in my office is a real looker. I'm crazy about her because she's also understanding, intelligent, tender - so many things that my spouse is not."

Somewhere along the way, you'll find a woman or a man who will be more charming or sensitive. More alluring. More thoughtful. Richer. Have greater sex appeal. And you will find a woman or man who will need you and pursue you and go loco over you more than your spouse ever did.

Because no wife or husband is perfect. Because a spouse will only have 90 of what you're looking for. So adultery takes place when a husband or wife looks for the missing 10%.

Let's say your wife is melancholic by nature. You may find yourself drawn to the pretty clerk who has a cherry laughter. Or because your wife is a homebody in slippers and pyjamas, smelling of garlic and fish oil, you may fall for a fresh-smelling young sales representative that visits your office in a sharp black blazer, high heels, and a red pencil-cut skirt.

Or because your husband is the quiet type, your heart may skip a beat when you meet an old college flame who has the makings of a talk show host.

But wait! That's only 10% of what you don't have. Don't throw away the 90% that you already have! Add to your spouse's 90% the 100% that represents all the years that you have been with each other.

The storms you have weathered together. The unforgettable moments of sadness and joy as a couple. The many adjustments you have made to love the other. The wealth of memories that you've accumulated as lovers.

Adultery happens when you start looking for what you don't have. But faithfulness happens when you start thanking God for what you already have.

But I'm not just talking about marriage.I'm talking about life!About your jobs.About your friends.About your children.About your lifestyles.

Are you like the economy airline???
